World Book Night is a national celebration of reading and books which takes place on 23 April every year. Books are given out across the UK with a focus on reaching those who don’t regularly read, and are gifted through organisations including prisons, libraries, colleges, hospitals, care homes and homeless shelters, as well as by passionate individuals who give out their own books within their communities.
To celebrate this year's event there will be a 'Walk and Talk' leaving from the John Gray Centre, Haddington, at 4.15pm, returning by 5.00pm with a mystery book prize for all walkers. This walk is for adults only.
There will also be a grand sale of ex-library stock in the Star Room, John Gray Centre, from 5.30pm. Huge bargains to be had! Items for all ages including CDs, DVDs and of course - books!
Members of Tyne & Esk writers have been invited to sell their own work in the library and any local authors are also very welcome to come along and sell copies of their books.
Because it’s World Book Night we’d like to encourage anyone that comes along for the walk and/or the book sale, to bring one of their own books to give to someone else and share the pleasure of reading.
